Imagine scrolling through a feed where everything looks perfect—cozy coffee nooks, aesthetically plated meals, mood-lit bedrooms, and flawless outfits. That’s the magic of Pinterest. A place to create vision boards, discover new hobbies, and plan the picture-perfect life, it has become more than just a platform—it’s a source of inspiration, and a blueprint for an ideal lifestyle. But does chasing that aesthetic really transform lives, or does it set up unrealistic expectations?
For many, this visual haven isn’t just about saving pretty pictures; it actively pushes them to try new things. Jasnoor Kaur Grewal, a 20 year-old fashion communication student at Pearl Academy, Delhi, shares, “I’ve picked up hobbies like journaling and making clay charms, which were fun when I had the time for them.” She believes the platform sparks creativity, but acknowledges that not everything turns out as planned. Similarly, Rishika Dixit, 19, a Fashion Design student at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai, finds herself drawn to recreating ideas, from styling outfits to decorating her space. “It helps me stay productive, as I see, and attract good things, and try incorporating them into my daily life,” she adds.

Beyond hobbies, visuals play a significant role in boosting mood and energy. Nishtha Kumar, 20, also pursuing Fashion Communication at Pearl Academy, Delhi explains how seeing visually appealing routines online makes her romanticise daily activities—workouts, self-care, and even organizing her space. “It’s inspiring for fashion, creativity, and productivity, but sometimes real life feels less exciting compared to Pinterest perfection,” she admits. The pressure to maintain a refined visual style can turn into a cycle of constantly seeking visual appeal, even in everyday moments.
Hazel Gupta, 19, not only uses this creative gallery for personal inspiration but also for her small business, ‘All Things Creative’(@allthingscreative_.). “It helps me explore packaging designs that attract customers,” she says. With 50 followers, since it was launched in January, she sees it as a tool that enhances both creativity and branding. However, she notes that some standards set on the platform can be difficult to achieve overnight.

While the platform fuels creativity, many agree that it’s important to take inspiration rather than pressure. “Artistic visuals definitely boost my mood, but I don’t stress about making everything perfect,” Jasnoor adds. Hazel echoes this sentiment, appreciating this creative space for its motivating visuals but recognising that not every goal is instantly achievable.
Pinterest has undeniably become a lifestyle curator for Gen Z, influencing habits, purchases, and aspirations. Whether it’s discovering new hobbies, upgrading personal spaces, or planning outfits, the impact is real. But as with any social media platform, balance is key. As long as users take what works for them without feeling pressured to replicate perfection, Pinterest remains a gateway to creativity, encouragement, and a well-curated dream life. After all, life isn’t just about looking good on a mood board— it’s about making moments worth pinning in real life.
